Head, the former Hillcrest Christian star and Ole Miss All-American, was cut loose by the Cleveland Indians after hitting .246 with six homers at the Triple-A level in 2009. He has landed with the Southern Illinois Miners of the independent Frontier League. Players have made it to the majors after detouring through indy ball, but it’s a short list.
